Buttock Augmentation by Fat Transfer

Buttocks Augmentation ModelRounded, healthy-looking buttocks play an important role in creating a well-proportioned body. For some people, however, even squats and other body shaping exercises don't help.

If your backside lacks fullness as a result of aging, weight fluctuation or just plain genetics, buttock augmentation may be for you. In Boston, this cosmetic plastic surgery procedure is performed by Dr. Michael Tantillo. He uses fat taken from another part of your own body to fill out and sculpt your gluteal region, thereby creating fuller, shapelier buttocks.

An exciting alternative to buttock augmentation using implants, this procedure – also known as a Brazilian butt lift – may be the best choice for many patients. Dr. Tantillo is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and has the aesthetic skill and surgical expertise to help you achieve the butt you've always wanted.

What is Buttock Augmentation by Fat Transfer?

This surgical procedure is made up 3 steps. First, Dr. Tantillo performs liposuction on another part of the patient's body to obtain the needed fat for the fat transfer. He then puts the fat through a preparatory process that will allow it to thrive in its new location. Finally, he injects the processed fat into the buttocks to sculpt and shape them.

Because this procedure combines both liposuction and augmentation, the patient will see improvement not only in the buttocks but also in the area where the liposuction is performed.

Who is a Candidate for Buttock Augmentation by Fat Transfer?

Patients choose buttock augmentation with Dr. Tantillo to:

  • Create a rounder, fuller bottom
  • Improve their overall body proportions
  • Address contour imperfections

Your consultation will include a review of your medical and surgical history to help determine your candidacy. Candidates must have enough fat available on other parts of the body to be removed through liposuction and transferred to the buttocks. However, Dr. Tantillo stresses that patients should not attempt to gain weight prior to their surgery.

Recovery & Results

The surgery is usually performed in our fully accredited ambulatory surgery center under general anesthesia. After the surgery, you will be wearing a compression garment over the areas treated with liposuction, and you will be ready to go home in a few hours.

Following the surgery, most patients will experience swelling, which may increase for the first few days before diminishing. The buttocks will appear quite full initially, but their shape will improve as the swelling subsides.

Patients can generally walk the day of surgery and increase their activity level gradually. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 3 weeks after surgery. You can shower the day after surgery and change the bandages as needed. You should sleep on your stomach for 2 weeks after surgery unless you have also had an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure, in which case you should sleep on your back.

You will see the final result of your buttock augmentation 3 months after surgery. Liposuction results will begin to appear after 4 to 6 weeks, and improvement will continue for 4 to 6 months after surgery.
