What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, rejuvenates the eye area by removing sagging skin, muscle, and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. The result is a more rested and youthful facial appearance. For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Tantillo conceals the incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelids; for lower eyelids, he places the incision either along the lower eyelashes, or inside of the lower eyelid.

Some patients choose to combine eyelid surgery in Boston, MA with a brow lift or facelift for a more complete facial rejuvenation. Also, you can enhance the results of your eyelid surgery with non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Radiesse®, or JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel. Dr. Tantillo can help you determine the best treatment for your plastic surgery goals.

Who is a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery in Boston, MA?

Healthy, non-smoking women and men between the ages of 40 and 70 are usually the best candidates for eyelid surgery. This procedure effectively improves:

  • Loose, sagging upper and lower eyelids
  • Wrinkles around the eyes ("crow's feet")
  • Fatty deposits on upper and lower eyelids
  • Under-eye bags

Your actual eyelid surgery results will depend on personal factors such as skin elasticity and bone structure. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Tantillo will listen to your concerns and determine the most appropriate technique to achieve your goals.

Recovery & Results

Immediately after your procedure, you'll need to rest with your head elevated to minimize swelling and bruising. Over the first week after your surgery, swelling and bruising should subside and Dr. Tantillo will be able to allow you to resume light activity. Most patients can return to work within 10 days. After recovery, usually within about 2 weeks, Dr. Tantillo's eyelid surgery patients are usually quite pleased with the improvement they see. You can appear more youthful and rested, free from sagging skin and puffiness around your eyes.
