Breast Augmentation Case
Details for Case #18
This is a 29 year old woman who came to cosmetic surgery office in Boston from the North Shore to discuss
breast augmentation surgery. She was happy with the shape of her breasts preoperatively, but wanted a modest increase in cup size.
During our consultations she decided upon an augmentation of approximately 300cc. We discussed the asymmetry present preoperatively and decided to use different implant fill volumes to compensate for the difference in her breast size. She chose an inframammary incision and to have the implants placed below the chest wall muscle which decreases the risk of capsular contracture.
During surgery I used Inamed moderate profile implants and filled the right implant with 305cc of saline and the left implant with 325cc of saline. The pocket is precisely created through the inramammary incision and the incision is well hidden within the fold of her breast.
The flexibility of filling saline implants to slightly different volumes can be beneficial for patients with subtle differences in the size of the breasts, such as this patient. By choosing a modest, appropriately sized implant this patient decreased her risk for damage to and stretch of her tissues over time. Her recent six year follow-up demonstrates the longevity of the natural look of her augmented breasts. She remains quite pleased with her breast sugmentation.
