This is a patient in her mid-thirties and a mother of one who came to my Needham office for consultation regarding breast and body contouring after pregnancy. In part due to the loss of soft tissue elasticity after pregnancy and nursing her fill volume, volume necessary to fully fill the breast, was over 400cc. She wanted fullness in the upper breast but felt like implants over 400cc would make her look heavy. Therefore I tightened the skin envelope with a mastopexy around the areola and used smaller implants. Her right breast was slightly larger than her left breast and I used a 339cc implant on the right and a 371cc implant on the left (mid profile silicone partially under the muscle). The mastopexy around the areola also afforded the opportunity to reduce the size of the areola; the implants were placed through this incision.
She was also interested in improving her torso. She had good tissue elasticity of the torso and liposuction was all that was needed; she did not need a tummy tuck. The liposuction was circumferential using power assisted liposuction. In my opinion there is not a need to use laser liposuction which can damage the soft tissue and cause uncontrolled scarring of the skin to the underlying tissues and contour irregularities. Skin tightening follows traditional liposuction.
I am able to offer surgery in the fully accredited operating suite within the Brookline office. For patients who require an overnight stay, surgery can be performed at the Faulkner Hospital or the Beth Israel Needham Hospital both of which have private patient rooms.
