This fifty-six year old woman from the Metro West area came to my Brookline cosmetic surgery office to discuss eyelid surgery Boston. She had recently lost a significant amount of weight and was bothered by the heavy and tired look of her eyes. She was unhappy with the heaviness of her upper eyelids and the loose, baggy skin of the lower eyelids.
During our Boston plastic surgery consultation we discussed the various components and manifestations of peri-orbital aging. This patient smoked cigarettes and smoking cessation is an important part of overall health as well as skin protection and rejuvenation. During our consultation we discussed the excess skin of the upper eyelids and the lower eyelids and also the loss of support of her lower eyelid. If the surgeon does not recognize loss of lower eyelid support before the surgery, the lower eyelid can contract downward after the surgery.
This patient’s eyelid surgery included removal of excess skin and fat of the upper eyelids, removal of excess lower eyelid fat through an incision on the inside of the lower eyelid and finally a procedure to tighten the lower eyelid in order to maintain the support of the lower eyelid. Her post operative photographs demonstrate a more youthful and refreshed look of the eyes. Note the improved position of the lower eyelid.
